Simply Curious

I've unfortunately discovered that all of the mail forwards I've set up to in connection with my web site mail server are suddenly no longer working due to a decision made by Alpha Hosting.  Perhaps I AM a little lazy in wanting to only check in one place for all of my email rather than signing in and out of multiple places, but they could have at least warned me first!  I believe it cost me a potential job interview before I caught it.

I am now tempted to shut down the web site and move everything on it to here. However, I've had oneluckybug.com since 2002, (and a Tripod account for 5 years before that!) and there's no way I will ever get such an awesome deal again. On the other hand, I also haven't really used it in the past few years, only adding a few pages here and there regarding a project I've done.  My web site was essentially my blog, before blogs came about.  This means that most of the data on there will translate easily to blog format, but it could overwhelm the blog!  My husband has offered me room on HIS server space, where I could combine blog and web site all in one place and not have to deal with 3rd parties that like to randomly change things.  It's a tough call.  I should go look at layouts and think.

I decided it was time to update my blog logo.  Actually, I decided that back in the summer when I felt that logo me wearing a winter hat made it look rather dated.  It's fun to do logos customized to what's going on in my life at the time, but it's hard and time consuming.  So here's a generic one.  If an idea strikes me I'll change it in the future, but it will eventually revert back to this one.  Have a look at some of the previous logos!

Last August I found some code that would allow me to pull photos and captions from my Picasa album and post them on a simple page I created for the purpose.  Picasa's made so many changes and complications from what it used to be that I was finding it more and more difficult to navigate and share.  I finally got to playing with it again today and was pleased to finally make a page with exactly what I wanted.

Now I can create a simple page to display a new album in less than a minute.

I'd still like to see if I can figure out a way to get them all to display on one page.  I'll have to think about it.

It finally dawned on me that my blog looks awful.  I had stubbornly tried to change it to make it match my web site and it just didn't want to work.  So I'll be playing with it for a few days until I find something that's more satisfying.

I suppose I should work on my web site, too.

Thought I'd abandoned this, did you? Sort of did, I guess. I've been busy. Sorry.

Because it doesn't seem likely that I'll be able to do lots of updates, I figured I should just do one major update so that I can leave it for ages and not worry about rushing to update the sidebar girl. It was fun while it lasted, though!

This is your sneak peak at the latest design. It's by Andrew Strojny, called Mint Chocolate Chip. A free download! The code is as neat and clean as the design, unlike my old code. Sadly, it means I get to do what I was trying to avoid doing in the first place - go through and update every. single. page. with the new CSS stuff. *sigh* It also means I'll be cleaning up some of my pages and adding new stuff. At least I hope that's what it means. Way to get myself started!

I was planning on holding out and updating all the pages at once, but you know me. I get impatient to see what it looks like and start doing them live, one at a time. So bear with me! Soon it will be neat and sparkly.
